The Sense of Scandinavia with Skandinavisk Escapes Collection

Skandinavisk escapes range

I do love candles, in particular Skandinavisk candles. Excitingly, this summer they invited me to an intimate garden party to celebrate the launch of their new ESCAPES collection. Fitting with the Scandinavian’s summer fleet to escape (generally for 3 weeks in their case), I jetted off to Copenhagen to discover more about these candles and enjoy an evening in a perfect rose garden.

Here Skandinavisk describe the Scandinavian escape and an insight to their collection…..

“Escaping to nature is something Scandinavians embrace enthusiastically.
Long drives on empty roads, disconnecting from the material world, to hidden
houses deep in the landscape, and reconnecting with mother nature. Journeys of
such annual importance, they are almost akin to a religious pilgrimage. Yet for
many others the temptation to escape to such remote destinations to find inner
peace is far too often unfulfilled.
This inspired us to create a new fragrance collection, a narrow range of three unique
fragrances designed for the body as well as the home, each intended to leave a
lasting impression of Nordic peace and tranquillity.
The scents are captured inside an entirely new interpretation of our visual design,
utilising new materials, yet still telling the story of Scandinavians’ unique approach
to life through the medium of fragrance and flame.” – says Skandianavisk

I confess. I’m not a fan of roses, in fact I would tend to grimace each time I see them in the shops for valentines day. AND yes I was flown out to Copenhagen to see a rose garden……. but I had faith that there was more too this rose garden than my assumed red rose cliché. After all this is in Copenhagen where it’s known for style, thoughtful design and practicality.

Skandinavisk escapes rose garden

What did I learn?.. well, I knew nothing about roses, there are SO many varieties and not the kind I’ve ever seen before. Some of which are pretty tiny little delicate flowers. To see a thriving rose garden in Scandinavia where the climate is challenging, was very special and a beautiful introduction to the complex world of scent.

It was a beautiful evening, we had a presentation of the new scents and learnt about why candles are so important to Scandinavian culture. Of which is a whole new post to come.  It was very insightful and I look forward to learning more about this subject.

Skandinavisk base their scented candles on aspects of Scandinavian nature and culture including that of their Nordic neighbours. Interestingly, Finland and Iceland are not in Scandinavia, they’re in the Nordics.

These new Skandinavisk Escapes candles come with embossed ceramic vases solid wooden lids and each one has an inspired story.

Skandinavisk Escapes, rosenhave

Rosenhave – Danish for rose garden. Sheltered haven, nature’s bounty, romance for the heart.

Scents of alba rose & elderflower, blackcurrant buds & lily of the valley.

“Nordic rose gardens are precious places, exposed to the raw climate only the hardiest varieties, and most careful owners, can expect their fragile fragrance blushes to survive and prosper after the long, frozen winters”

Skandinavisk escapes - Lysning

Skandinavisk escapes - Lysning

Lysning – Meaning forest glade. Silent clearing, shadow oasis, serenity for the mind

Scents of mosses & lichens, pine needles & cloudberry.

“The dense boreal forest canopy occasionally reveals glades and clearings, hidden escapes where the sunlight touches the ground and the flora responds in abundance.”

HEIASkandinavisk escapes Heia

Heia meaning heathland, remote wilderness, primeval terrain, nourishment for the soul.

Scents of heather & thyme, bearberry & leaf sap.

“The rough, exposed terrain in the higher altitude fells of Norway and Sweden offers a colourful home to hardy shrubs, wild herbs and berries, and fragrant hills of heather.”

Beautiful fragrances with so much thought and appreciation for nature and culture within the nordic countries.
