Simply Scandinavian Christmas

When it comes to Christmas I think we all have to agree, the Scandinavians do it the best. I really love the Scandinavian Christmas style and as you may know I’m half Danish so there’s total bias on my part. I particularly love a combination of decorations that are very natural and simplistic with hints traditional designs. Heirloom decorations are a great thing to bring out each year. Throughout my childhood I remember hanging up the annual Georg Jensen christmas decorations and putting sweets on the Royal Copenhagen christmas plates, which has always felt like a special moment. I was really happy to see that John Lewis are selling this years Georg Jensen and Royal Copenhagen decorations, perfect to add to the collection and cherish for years to come.

This year I’m planning a simplistic, modern Scandinavian christmas style at home with accents of the mentioned heirlooms. Styling your home for Christmas in a Scandi way doesn’t stop at the tree and mantle, the entire home is decorated and styled to create a feeling of hygge. Cushions, throws, candles, extra lamps, side chairs for guests and make sure there’s plenty of food and drink (displayed beautifully of course) and perfect scents throughout the home too. I’ve created this mood board to capture the elements of nature, tradition and hygge for a simply scandinavian christmas.

Decorating your home for christmas doesn’t have to be a huge redesign of your home. Simply adding a few decorations such as the Georg Jensen (1), pine cones (2) and natural wicker hearts (9) is effortlessly effective. Creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere with beautiful scents can transform the room, I’m particularly in love with the skandinavisk range of diffusers and candles (3). Sitting back and relaxing in a comfy chair (6) with a warm glass of glögg (8) is always a treat, for extra comfort and hygge, add a throw (4), cushion (5) and light some candles (7).

Have a cosy time getting your home ready for Christmas!

I’m so into this look too. I love the pine cones from John Lewis. They would look perfect around my fireplace.

Your selections are spot on as always. I wish I could get away with this much grey (my nasty carpets swallow it up). That chair needs to be mine…

A beautiful post Hannah, and a lovely moodboard. I love this look too but my house is a little too cluttered to do it justice! x
